Communication is a very important part of a relationship. It is how you share your wants and needs, expres your love and many other things. Here's the thing about a long distance relationship, sometimes your communication might change. Before John left, we'd talk at least once during the day, and see each other every night or so.
It's been two weeks since John moved. He's coming home this weekend, which is nice. But my weekend is jam packed, and I don't think I'll get enough time with him. Not to mention that his whole family wants to spend time with him, too. But this is beside the point - this is a post about communication.
The past week or so, I've felt our communication is failing. I get that John is working 12+ hour shifts, and I think that sucks (I can barely make it through 8 hours). How do you make your communication effective? How do you show someone, from 500 miles away, that you love them just as much as you did when you were spending all of your time together? I, for example, sent him a nice card just saying hello. Those little things are easy for me, and make me feel good.
The thing is, that BJM (before John moved), he was so good to me. He does these little things like bring me flowers for no reason, do my dishes without asking, randomly take me out to dinner... and now that stuff doesn't happen.
I feel like John's communication is going down. He'll Skype me, but he chatting with three other people, too. So how come I am not as important as them? How come I can't get 15 minutes of alone chat time? He rarely texts me and as of late hasn't even responded to my texts. Again, I get it. He's a police officer, he can't sit there and text.
I'm just feeling overwhelmed, I guess. I hope this weekend we can spend some time together and have a discussion about our expectations and what an ideal communication situation looks like for us. I want this to work. So bad. I want John, forever. This is just a bump in the road.
I'm probably coming off as some crazy, needy person but I'm still adjusting to this. I hope a good conversation and some time together in the hustle and bustle of this busy weekend will be good for us.
