our big news // part two

In case you missed part one...

So, I did go to the doctor and sure enough, I'm pregnant. As I mentioned in my other post, they think I'm around six weeks. They sent me for an ultrasound right away because of what happened a few months ago. We went down for the ultrasound and had the sweetest ultrasound tech.

She did her thing with her probe (O_O) and she let us know that it is OK if she doesn't see anything - that it's so early. I kept thinking back to the first ultrasound I had with my last pregnancy on January 28. I was also six weeks along and they picked up a nice, strong heartbeat. I always remind myself this pregnancy is different, and not to think about the other one.

She found the yolk sac and some other thing on the ultrasounds she did and once again assured us - it's OK. She said she'd recommend we come back in two - three weeks. I scheduled the second ultrasounds for two and a half weeks out - where according to my calculations we'd be 8.5 weeks pregnant. At that point, they can definitely capture a heartbeat.

It's the weirdest thing when you find you're pregnant. You're likely early - six or eight weeks if you've got a pretty regular cycle. Yet doctors don't want to see you until 10 - 12 weeks! So for four - six weeks you're just chilling, prego, wondering WTF you're doing. At least I was.

We shared the news with a few family members and some close friends - mostly those who knew about what happened earlier in the year. So now, I'll recap weeks six - 12!

I didn't write down everything from each week so this is an overall review.

Weeks 6 - 8

I felt pretty good - not really many symptoms! I remember going in for the ultrasound and feeling nauseous the night before. It's a weird kind of nausea, not really where I wanted to throw up, just this constant unrest in my belly. My boobs were definitely sore and I could tell they were getting a little bigger (just what I need!). I'm not showing, which is expected at this point.

Weeks 9 - 12

These were the worst weeks for me. Weeks 9 and 10, I was basically dead half the time. The exhaustion and nausea were unreal. I never actually barfed, though I got very close for three days in week 11.

We had our 12 week doctor appointment with a midwife on Wednesday. I have so many questions, but mostly I feel so naive. I need to find some kind of pregnant mom groups.

I don't think I'm showing at all - it's hard to tell because of my already large gut... We saw our old neighbor friends around week 10 and she is 22 weeks pregnant and just has the littlest belly, like she ate a big meal. I can't believe I'll have to wait until August to look somewhat pregnant, and not just large.

I bought a few maternity tops in my Stitch Fix box last month! They're amazing because they're so long (perfect for my long torso!) and they don't really even look maternity-ish. I'm still in my favorite jeans but they're realllllly uncomfortable around the belly and I definitely used the hair binder trick for a date night. But I've been living in yoga pants and leggings! I need to find some more maxi dresses.
